The dogs of the Central Texas Dachshund Recue calendar

Central Texas Dachshund Rescue calendar

My good friend Sue is a volunteer with Central Texas Dachshund Rescue. She recently finished photographing all the dogs that will be featured on the 2011 Rescue Calendar, which she also designed. Sue also made a short video to promote the calendar and raise funds for her organization. The images and stories of these dogs are very moving.

All of the dachshunds on the calendar (and in the video below) are in loving homes now and their stories can be read in the calendar. I personally know Mr. August, Martin and recently saw him perform at a friend’s swimming pool. He loves to dive, and is quite entertaining to watch.

These calendars make great gifts for the holidays, but if you aren’t in the market for one please consider donating to this small nonprofit run entirely by volunteers. They are able to take dogs in even though they don’t have the funds because various vet clinics are generous enough to run a tab for them. Now they need our help to pay the tab down so they can continue to take in abused and abandoned dachshunds.

The images in the video are sure to tug at your heart, so get your tissues out before you watch it! The good news is all the animals in the video have found permanent forever homes. As is always the case with rescue though, there are more out there looking for forever homes.

There are many ways to support to CTDR: Directly to their Facebook Cause, Buy a Calendar, Sponsor a specific Dog, or just make a general donation.Start your own fundraising effort for CTDR if you are really inspired. Sue set up her own “Dollars for Dachshunds” page through First Giving.

And, just because he’s so darn cute, here’s Martin, Mr. August . . .
