If you already have a relationship with a pet sitter, and need pet care between now and the end of the year, give him or her a call right away! If not, you’ll risk hearing, “I’m sorry, but I”m booked!” If you’re looking for a pet sitter for the first time, you really need to get busy. You’ll need to allow for enough time to meet with at least one pet sitter before you hire someone. Since you’re hiring someone to care for your pet and home, you don’t want feel rushed into making a decision that may not be a good fit. Planning early can help. Choosing a pet sitter is more involved than simply finding someone online or in the phone book and giving them the dates services are required. Before taking on a new client, pet sitters will require an in-home visit – a meet and greet. During the meet and greet the pet sitter will go over the type of care your pets need, have you complete a contract and other paperwork, get your house keys and security codes, and go over fees and payment options. It is also the time when everyone – you, your pets, and your pet sitter – will be able to decide if you’re a good fit for each other. It’s essentially an interview for everybody involved, as well as the time to talk about details.
