Herbras (Gerbera L.) is an ornamental plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Herbras bush is a plant that lived many years (perennial), elongated-shaped leaves, green with a large serrated leaf edge.
Gerbera Traugott Gerber name is taken from a German doctor who was a friend of Carolus Linnaeus. Name of species Gerbera jamesonii (Barberton daisy) was taken from a plant collector named Robert Jameson who discovered this plant in the province of Transvaal, South Africa.
Herbras consists of about 2,000 cultivars with flowers that have a shape and size varied between 5-12 cm in diameter. Flowers Herbras have excrescence (capitulum) of which is the subject of 2-layer circuit petals (called a ray floret) long-shaped colorful interesting: orange, yellow, pink, red, white, pink salmon, and purple. Section containing an array of hump also hundreds of small flowers (trans floret and disc floret) so it looks like a flower intact. In the center hump is sometimes dark. At the same flower is also often found differences in corolla color.
In nature there are more than 40 species Herbras spread from South America, Africa, Madagascar to tropical regions of Asia. Herbras began to be cultivated at the end of the 19th century in England by Richard Lynch, a curator at the Botanical Gardens of Cambridge, England.
